Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the tab discards it.

How does it remove the data?

It redraws the picture on a blank canvas and saves it again, so only the pixels carry over. EXIF, GPS, camera and XMP data are left behind.

Does quality change?

JPG and WebP are re-saved at 95% quality, so the file size may change slightly. PNG stays lossless.

Will the photo still be the right way up?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Your browser applies the orientation first, so the saved photo looks as it did on screen.

Does it show every kind of metadata?

Accepted Answer

It scans JPG EXIF for GPS, camera model and date. Other metadata types are removed too but are not listed.
